We approve engines in accordance with SOLAS/MED requirements. This means that your engine will go through an hour long test program that ensures optimal engine operation as well as compliance with all relevant standards and requirements. The test program includes:
- Cold start at down to -15 degrees Celcius
- Engine start up after storage in cold chamber
- After every start up the engine immediately has to be able to reach normal operating levels
- The transmission has to work in all shifter positions.
- The engine has to run without the engine cover and at maximum strain while it is being splashed with cold water for more than five minutes.
- The engine goes through a freefall test. During the freefall test the engine is installed on a lifeboat that is released from the vessel and falls into the sea. The fall from the vessel cannot affect the engine’s construction nor its functionality and the engine has to be able to start right after the lifeboat has hit the surface of the sea.
